To describe the weather in a word it would be wretched, unless you find pleasure dusting yourself off and being buffeted by near gale force gusts. Some were measured exceeding 60 miles per hour.

That is strong enough to knock an empty tractor trailer onto its side a few miles south of New Deal. The driver was taken completely by surprise.

The driver was trapped inside the cab for about an hour.  First responders cut their way to him.  He was taken to a hospital for a medical check. All north bound traffic on Interstate 27 was diverted to the access road as emergency crews cleaned up.

Not matter your mode of travel, be it by land or air, being that truck may have been preferable to being in a plane. That is if you could take off from or land on a runway. A handful of afternoon flights at LIA were delayed because of the wind, a few of them were even cancelled.

With the East-West runway closed for reconstruction, only the North-South runway is left open for commercial flights making west winds the worst kind.
