If you live within the Lubbock city limits your property insurance rate will be dropping. The reason behind this drop is due to the grand opening of fire station number sixteen at 114th Street and Quaker Avenue. This fire house, housing one engine company, will shorten emergency response times for calls in southwest Lubbock, between Frankford and Indiana, south of 89th Street.
"With this station and the other ones that we will be building in the next year or so, we will have great coverage in the southern part of the city,” Mayor Tom Martin said. “That we keep everybody in this city at that one and a half mile response distance."
Mayor Martin said the construction costs came in under the expected $2.5 million. Funding for the station was approved by voters in the 2009 bond election.
