It's the best movie of the year not nominated for Best Picture. In fact, with one sound nomination, "Drive" got as many Oscar nods as "Transformers 3"  and "Real Steel."

The Academy should never live that down. But what do they know anyway? "Drive" is just too cool, too hip and too violent for their delicate sensibilities.

Star Ryan Gosling describes it as an ultra-violent John Hughes movie. He stars as a getaway driver who gets caught up in a criminal plot to help protect a woman and her son.

The usually comedic Albert Brooks is a dangerously intimidating gangster. Yet the voters didn't seem to think he was that good. They're wrong. Gosling was also ignored for his stern, searing performance with a face that punctuates.

The film is as violent as it is romantic with Carey Mulligan terrific as the woman caught in the middle.

This is a unique movie, with director Nicholas Winding Refn consistently surprising us. I love this thing, so i cant wait to own the Blu-ray which comes with a few extras including about 45 minutes combined of behind the scenes features.

But the real treat is the movie itself, worth watching numerous times.
